Since apparently the fabulous US of A (which, for the record, I love) still has not progressed to the point where priests of the Hindu faith (which is, of course, one of the oldest religions around) can legally marry Srin and me....
Sad? I think so.
Yet, someone-anyone-seriously-ANYONE can go online and self-ordain themselves as part of this made up online monastery (at least it is truly non-denominational) and has the legal rights to pronounce us man and wife. An axe murderer, someone currently in jail whose family goes online for him/her, a bum on the street, or an honest & hardworking person...all the same. Yet, someone who has given his life to a well known and worldly religion cannot marry two people...
Unless, of course, he gets ordained online...
Even sadder? I think so.
Please-let's discuss.
Wow, I had no idea. That's unbelievable...
ReplyDeleteSo is your brother really going to marry you guys?!
ReplyDeletePer the books, yup! It's more a big laugh for us:):):) We will have the Hindu ceremony first and then we'll do something silly for Bhik to sign the paperwork. My dad wants him to chant stuff. It's been a pretty funny thing. I am so glad I remembered how quirky my brother is and that he did this a while ago. It beats having to go to the JP before or after the wedding to make it official. I cannot believe your news Tamara! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteAnd yup Reyes--believe it!
I wish I had thought of this for my wedding!
ReplyDeleteThat is hands down the best thing I have read in a long time. I am glad our sarcasm has had a great impression on you. Also Sujay agreed to let you do the same at our wedding (only because I had my heart set on it; I think he thinks it's pretty weird but he is humoring us.).
ReplyDeleteAre you sure you know what you are in for, Sujay?
ReplyDeletenow that's a good man. Do you think Sujay reads my blog?
